Connecting the Wiimote to a Widcomm Bluetooth stack
From Smoothboard
This is a guide to connecting a Wiimote to a Widcomm stack in both XP and Vista. It takes a few steps to connect your Wiimote the first time. However, the future connections are a lot quicker.
First Connection Sequence
Follow this guide if it's the first time you are connecting your Wiimote to your PC, you are connecting a different Wiimote to your PC or you have removed the Wiimote from your HID list.
1. Either right click the Bluetooth icon in the systems bar and select 'Explore My Bluetooth Places' or double click on 'My Bluetooth Places in 'My Computer'
2. Click 'Add a Bluetooth Device' or 'Bluetooth Setup Wizard' depending on the version of Widcomm
3. Depending on your version either click 'next' or select 'I want to find a specific Bluetooth device and configure how this computer uses its services' and click 'next'
4. Hold buttons 1 & 2 (don't let go or you will have to restart)
5. Wait for your computer to locate the Wiimote, when you see 'Nintendo RVL-CNT-01' select it and click 'next'.
6. On the next screen click 'skip'.
7. Wait for the computer to identify the services it offers, make sure the box is ticked then click 'finish'.
If this is a first time connection you will need to wait for the HID drivers to be found and installed. This may take a while and requires admin privileges on your Windows user.
8. Release buttons 1 & 2 on the Wiimote
9. Open Smoothboard or your other Wiimote application. (If you wait more than 10 seconds between releasing buttons 1 & 2 and executing your application your Wiimote may disconnect).
Reconnecting
If you have already connected your Wiimote and the device is shown in 'My Bluetooth Places' follow this guide. Some versions of Widcomm do not support this short cut and you will need to repeat the above protocol with every connection.
1. Goto 'My Bluetooth Places'
2. Select the 'Nintendo RVL-CNT-01 (you may need to click 'devices in range' on the left navigation bar to see the devices)
3. Hold buttons 1 & 2
4. Click 'Add the selected Bluetooth device' or 'Bluetooth setup wizard' depending on your version
5. Wait for the computer to identify the services it offers, make sure the box is ticked then click 'finish'.
6. Release buttons 1 & 2 on the Wiimote
7. Open Smoothboard or your other Wiimote application. (If you wait more than 10 seconds between releasing buttons 1 & 2 and executing your application your Wiimote may disconnect).
