From Smoothboard

Jump to: navigation, search

This is a guide to connecting a Wiimote to a Microsoft stack in both XP, Vista and Mac Bootcamp. It takes a few steps to connect your Wiimote the first time but the future connections are a lot quicker.

SmoothConnect - Automatic Connection

Smoothboard now comes with SmoothConnect which allows automatic connection between your computer and Wiimote. Just launch Smoothboard and let SmoothConnect search for Wiimotes by itself.

1. Launch Smoothboard and SmoothConnect will be loaded if you are using the MS Bluetooth Stack.

2. When first started, SmoothConnect will be constantly searching for Wiimotes.

3. Press 1+2 Buttons on the Wiimotes you would like to learn.

4. SmoothConnect will automatically connect to your Wiimotes and launch Smoothboard when it is connected.

The number of Wiimotes SmoothConnectt tries to learn and connect to is depending on the number of Wiimotes selected inside Smoothboard (Settings->Wiimote->1 or 2 Wiimotes)

First connection sequence - Manual Connection

Follow this guide if this is the first time you are connecting your Wiimote to your PC, you are connecting a different Wiimote to your PC or you have removed the Wiimote from your HID list.

1. Right click the Bluetooth icon in the systems bar and select 'Add a Bluetooth Device' or double click the 'Bluetooth Devices' in 'Control Panel' (it may be in the 'Printers and Other Hardware' category).

2. Click 'Add'

3. Tick 'My service is setup and ready to be found' and click 'next'

4. Hold buttons 1 & 2 (don't let go or you will have to restart)

5. Wait for your computer to locate the Wiimote. When you see 'Nintendo RVL-CNT-01' select it and click 'next'.

6. On the next screen click 'Don't use a passkey' and click 'next'

7. Wait for the computer to display the message 'The Bluetooth device was successfully connected to your computer' then click 'finish'.

If this is a first time connection you will need to wait for the HID drivers to be found and installed. This may take a while and requires admin privileges on your Windows user.

8. Release buttons 1 & 2 on the Wiimote

9. Open Smoothboard or your other Wiimote application. (If you wait more than 10 seconds between releasing buttons 1 & 2 and executing your application your Wiimote may disconnect).

  • If the connection fails repeat the process but at step 4: 'Open up the back of your Wiimote and press the red sync button then hold buttons 1 & 2'.
